Lenovo whitelists WLAN cards. You either need to buy a Lenovo branded one (only costs slightly more) or hack your BIOS.

Thanks -- buying a thinkpad version seems easy enough. I've looked at the hardware maintenance manual and only have one question. The thinkpad branded wifi card in 4170-32U has only one antenna. Will there be the cables / connectors for more antenna when I replace the card with a 6300 or 6205? Or will I be forced to run the better wifi card with fewer antenna?

    Thanks.

Why not at least try the original card before replacing it?

I've had a half a dozen thinkpads. I may be nutty, but the stock card on a 1x1 array seems to always kinda suck. I don't know why they even sell that config given the difference in cost is a few dollars.
