So I did a clean install, and reintalled the drivers I needed. Once that was done my PC usage was a lot higher (20% as opposed to 5% with factory) Additionally some of the volume buttons and such do not work. So now I am trying to restore factory settings but when I hit the thinkvantage button during start up rescue and recovery does not come up. What can I do? I forgot to make a backup=(

    Hi,

I used to do that also but I realized clean install on a thinkpad is headache for nothing. I realized it was better off with factory default installation and just uninstall/clean programs that you don't need.

To answer your question you can:

1- Contact Lenovo for recovery CD
2- If you have floppy drive you can make yourself a bootable diskette:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-54483
3- Use Partition Magic tools to have your primary boot on your factory recovery partition.

If you use the 3rd method, beware of saving all your important files because I haven't found a way to come back to the initial installation whitout restoring the factory default.

    Hope it helps,
    Cheers
