I've ordered a t400 and it's being shipped as we speak, but I'm starting to have regrets from all the negative comments on this forum and I'm kind of want the dell 14z instead now.

Is it possible to ship the item back? What are the conditions?

a 15% restocking fee since its already shipped. not completely sure about this if you dont open the box. I just got mine today and I love it. Personally, I wouldn't worry about the complaints at all.. this is a really fine machine

Then when you go to the dell forum and read about all the problems with the dell 14z then you will want a different notebook instead, or wanting to get back a T400 ;)
My point is that you tend to see more bad news than good news on a troubleshooting forum. People don't come here until they have a problem, and there are probably many people out there who loves their T400. So if you receive the laptop and love it, then keep it. Don't let your opinion be swayed so easily!

The 15% restocking fee will apply whether you open it or not, so hey, why not play with it for a few weeks and return it later if need be?

    Yea,

Originally, I bought the T400 because it was faster, cheaper, and hopefully, more durable than the Dell 14z. Regardless, it was a difficult decision with very few drawbacks when compared to the other. Guess I'll play with it around a bit first.

My T400 will be nearly a year and I haven't had any problems with it.

sr1650nx - when did you order it + received shipping confirmation?
I ordered on 7/31 and got shipping confirmation today

pk_volt - Like what zephir said, people come because they have problems with the laptops. If you're happy with your laptop and never been to this forum before, would you bother googling a notebook forum and make a "I love my T400" thread? :p Who knows, if there's really a problem with your T400, you can always get it fixed with warranty!

wait until you see it and try it out for yourself. I worried hugely over so many critical comments about my choice of Thinkpad, and found them to often wide of the mark once I received my own copy. Even lengthy reviews can only give some sense of worth, not only for notebooks but also for HDD's, screens, SSD's, etc. An hour with your choice will mean more than any review or comment someone else pens - as long as you have not chosen too far from the mark.

I'd just keep your current incoming T400. The T400's are excellent computers, and WELL worth the money. Once you get a ThinkPad, you will not want any other laptop !!! Trust me ! I had a HP laptop on order, and canceled it just to get my (now 1.5 year old) T61. I'm SOOOOO happy I did !!

You can bring your t400 to bestbuy, and do comparision.

I thought 14z is a great machine,in my opinion, the keyboard is the best of all notebook in bestbuy. (I usually use thinkpad keyboard)

For under 750, 14z is still in good value, but if you config it over 750, I don't think it's worth money.

I hate dell always hide the exact weight,

from my last experience, the weight dell lists in its webstie, it always be very very basic configuration, like use the least battery, no bluetooth, no wifi card and so on, and don't even give you specific documents regarding the wegiht.

Also, if you ask the rep, they don't know , too.
