I'm trying to decide on the final specs for ordering a T61, and one of things I'm having trouble deciding is the screen resolution. I've used a Macbook Pro before, and like their screen resolution, but it's 1440x900, which isn't available on the 15.4" T61. Would I hate a WXGA screen? I do have problems with eyestrain, since I look at computers so much. If the WSXGA+ screen has too high of a resolution, would there be a problem with running at less than its native resolution? I've never done that before, so I don't know if reducing the screen resolution would make the WSXGA+ screen equal to a WXGA+ screen, or if the quality would be inferior somehow, because the resolution isn't the native one.
Of course, the screen I'm used to is a 4:3 14" running 1024x768, so maybe the WXGA screen would be ok.

"Problems" would just be visual quality. You could always adjust the DPI if you got the higher resolution.

Thanks so much for the quick answer -- just to make sure I'm understanding you -- a WSXGA+ screen running at 1440x900 would look basically identical to a WXGA+ screen, if that were an option that IBM offered? I think in that case, it might be worth the $50...

A WSXGA+ screen run at WXGA+ resolution will be fuzzy. Things will be smaller cause you have a larger amount of stuff on the same screen size. I think the WXGA screen seems a better option. The pixels per inch in on a 15.4" WXGA screen will be very similar to a 14" XGA. The Dell E6500 does offer a WXGA+ screen if you're looking for alternatives.

you must run only native resolution on LCD displays

get the DPI adjusted if you want bigger objects. I run large fonts on mine for example

I've had 15.4" MacBookPro envy for some years now. What's always held me back from closing the deal and got me to buy my current T61p 15.4-inch WSXGA+Thinkpad instead is the superiority of this Thinkpad's screen.
This said, I still do envy the additional "nits" of the MacBookPro screen...

How about getting the wsxga+ and using vista's ability to increase the dpi? I've heard mixed reports on how good that capability is.

Vista is better than XP. Some things are hard coded in XP and won't change with the DPI.
