I have been using my new T400 for a few months now. Generally, I'm very happy with it. I have noticed some small issues with the screen though. There are at least four small (1-2mm) bright spots on the left side, as well as one darker smudge of about the same size. It's definitely not a dead/stuck pixel issue, and definitely not dirt or something like that. They are mostly noticeable on a white or light background, but are invisible on black.

Although it is annoying, It's something I could live with. I am considering invoking the warranty. However, I don't want to be without a computer as school starts up again, and I know this could be asking for other more serious problems. So, I have two questions for anyone who is experienced with this particular issue or with Lenovo support.

My main question is, is this problem likely to get worse with time? Also, what sort of service should I expect from Lenovo? Thanks for any comments.

Are these "screen spots" areas where the keyboard contacts and rubs against the screen? Although my T500 never had this problem, my dad's beat-up T60 has some markings on the screen from the dozens and dozens of times he stuffs it in his overfilled laptop bag or piles books on top of it.

If you find what is causing the problem and take steps to prevent it, it's unlikely to get worse over time. Although there are users who have had negative experiences with Lenovo support, considering that only negative experiences tend to push people to complain about it online, Lenovo support is usually pretty good at fixing specific problems promptly.

you mean light spots? this is usually an indication that there is a localized pressure point behind that particular part of LCD.

I have sent my old R61i in before, and it was fixed under warranty. But depending on the LCD this repair can take up to 3 to 4 weeks, as they may have to order the LCD in.

Thanks for the post. Hmm. . . I really hope it isn't from something I'm doing. The spots don't correspond to the key positions in any obvious way. I do often transport the laptop in my backpack, sometimes with books. I use a home made sleeve which doesn't offer great protection, but certainly provides padding to the lid. I'm just having a hard time imagining how something external to the laptop might have caused a small pressure point on the back of the LCD panel.

Thanks for the post. Yeah, on a white background it looks like the screen was rubbed with a tiny eraser. It disappears on black though.

it should be covered under warranty. The screen rollcage on the T400 should have prevented this, but it still happens.

Stating the obvious: did you try cleaning the screen? Plain water and small drop of mild dish soap with clean cotton cloth or microfiber only (no tissue or paper towels). Could be some kind of smudge.
