I upgraded the hard drive in my brand new r61 with seagate momentus 5400.4. When installing vista, the drive keep clicking although it's brand new in box. I has run the seagate seatools desktop edition. it passed the smart test and bad sector test but failed the the file stucture test. Is there something wrong with the hard drive or the machine. do I need to do any hard drive firmware upgrade. Thanks?

if the drive is new and clicking i would not even waste my time with it. send it back for a replacement. seagate is usually pretty easy to deal with. you may be able to reformat and keep the drive usuable but IMO its not even worth taking a chance on the reliability.

but I bought it on ebay brand new in box and seagate only cover warranty only for authorized retailer. So I think I cannot return them, right?
