so i'm looking to buy the gf the x61t and found one on ebay for pretty cheap but the only info the guy has is the serial number. i tried to go on the lenovo website but couldn't find it. i wanted to find out the information because he doesn't have the number of cells on the battery, processor speed or warranty. the listing is right here, http://cgi.ebay.com/new-IBM-Lenovo-Thinkpad-X61-tablet-laptop-notebook_W0QQitemZ330315559685QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLaptops_Nov05?hash=item330315559685&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:4|65:3|39:1|240:1318

yea i asked him if it had warranty of the number of cells, he simply replied with "i don't know look up the serial number."

but i mean if it a warranty and an 8 cell, I think it would be a good deal so that's why i am trying to look it up.

Without the model number, I don't believe you can look it up anywhere with just the serial number. Why doesn't he have the model number? It's on the same sticker on the bottom right next to the serial number.

FWIW, I would steer clear of it since the serial number has been posted publicly.
