I just bought a new battery for my t400 from ebay. The seller claims it as brand new but when I plug it in, the Battery Manager says it has 5 cycle counts. Is it OK for a new battery?

    Thx!

Once the battery is discharged past the 99 or 98% mark and is charged again, it is counted as a cycle. Chances are the machine was unplugged a couple of times; no harm done. Otherwise, does the program report anything unusual?

I am testing how long it could last. It's just the 5 makes a little uncomfortable about a new battery.

5 is not a significant amount. Did you buy the battery in unopened packaging? If it was unopened you probably just bought something like-new from a reseller. However are you sure it is a legit lenovo battery?

well, I think it may not be brand new that's why I asked if 5 is too high for a new battery. but it says Lenovo on the battery so I guess it's from Lenovo.

Check the remaining wattage in Power Manger. If it's new, it shouldn't have lost much if any at all.

If the seller said it was new and it was not in a sealed box then it is not legit. Depends how much you paid too, there are plenty of fakes.

    Design capacity: 37.43Wh
    Full charge capacity: 36.82Wh

I started to run on the battery from 96% full and the t400 ran out of battery in 2hr 44min. (t400, intel graphics, regular LCD, 50% brightness, wireless off, regular typing and document reading).

Is it good enough for a 4 cell?

You should probably be getting around 3.5 hours w/ the wireless off. And to answer your original question, the answer is no. A new battery should NOT have 5 cycle counts.

Looks like your battery has lost a few percent of its charge capacity. Ask the seller to see if you can exchange for a new battery.

Dude that's less than 2 percent. That's nothing.

Unless you paid full price as you would for Lenovo, I think you're ok. Check the manufacturer of the battery cells, see if it adds up..

Btw, how much did you pay for it?
