I was looking at Thinkpads and should I go for 14.1 WXGA TFT or 15.4" WXGA. Will a widescreen in 14" be a bit out of proportion. Also, is a glossy display better?

    Thanks

    14" is better

15.4" is too big to carry around all the time.

Go with the 14"! The T61 is a very fast & light machine. The 15.4" is less portible (wider & heavier).

Also, I would get the 14" while they are still making them!

What are you using it for? Moving around a lot, go with 14.1".

Mostly sitting on the desktop, get a 15.4".

Lenovo does not make a glossy screen, as far as I know. They're all matte.

    I'd go with the

    14.1" WXGA+ 1440 x 900 for portability

    15.4" for desktop.

You can get a glossy "mod" done at ScreenTek and I highly recommend it. Viewing angles and contrast are greatly improved over the matte display.

LOL, yeah I guess nobody caught that one. The R series does have a glossy LCD.

I would only go with a 14" in that case. The R series weighs a little more than the T series and a 15" screen would just exacerbate that problem. If you're looking for a desktop replacement then you could opt for the 15".

And I would choose glossy too.

Definitely go with the 14.1" R. The 15.4 doesn't have the top cover roll cage and is made of different material. The 14.1 R61 is very close to the T61 - but the 15.4 R61 is a different animal.

Yes they do. They use glossy screens on MANY laptops they sell. My L3000 Y410 has a glossy screen. Its not the best screen but it is glossy...

want my advice, the smaller the better for laptop ... you want something to carry not a TV on your back, I have a 15", I wish it was 12 :p

The way to have a big screen is just buying a screen at home for watching movies and .... I really not recommend big screens, just extra pounds on your shoulder all the time :p

Desktop can get as big as you want, I have a 22" at home ... but my experiment says matte screens are best for computer geeks that are infront of screen all the time, it doesn't hurt your eyes while glossy ones might bother your eyes a little as they are more bright ... Other fancy bright ones are suicide for geeks eyes ... USELESS :-D

I wnet with a 14, ive had a 15, they are just to big to carry around all the time, I wouldnt go insane and get a 12 thats just wayy too small, a 14 is a good mix, i not sure but i think they have smaller keyboards on 12's and i have fingers like sausages, but the 14 is great all around.

Excellent choice! Yeah, 15.4" widescreen is just too big to be lugging around town. I hope they come out with a 13.3" with an LED panel around next year.
