As I continue to wait in vain for Lenovo to offer the LED WXGA+ screens again on the T400 I'm also now considering the CCFL version and wanted to see if anyone knows the specs (such a brightness, contrast ratio etc.)

The current screen on my T61 is, quite frankly, crapola so I really don't want another repeat of that -- horrible viewing angles, light leakage, appalling contrast ratio, washed out colors.

How bad is the 14.1" CCFL WXGA+ screen?! :D

The LED backlight is not going to help with viewing angles. It will allows the screen to be brighter with using lower power and maybe make the screen more evenly lit. But if you take a bad screen and put a LED backlight behind it, it won't magically fix the quality of the screen to make it a good one.

i have the wxga+ ccfl and it really isnt that bad, only complaint i have about it is the brightness, not nearly as bright as the led on my dv4.

the backlight seems even, i cant see any bleeding or anything else. viewing angles seem pretty good, especially the horizontal.

overall its not that bad, but i do wish it was brighter and as efficient as the led.

The WXGA+ CCFL panel is rated at 200 nits, I believe, which is actually quite similar to the brightness of the WXGA+ LED panel that was previously offered with the T400.

CCFL WXGA is 185 nits, LED WXGA is 220 nits, CCFL WXGA+ is 200 nits, LED WXGA+ is 250 nits
All should be 1:300 contrast ratio (in actually lower if you measure) and crappy viewing angles.
WXGA LED (LG version) has slightly better contast ratio of 1:400 and is the newest of the screens offered. When you order it, its a lottery against crappier Chi Mei panel.

here are the specs on WXGA+ LED panel (the LG variant):
