no longer for sale on employee website, wasup with that? only widescreen
-
I believe someone already made a thread earlier today about this same subject. Another person replied that he spoke with a rep and that its just a supply issue. Expect some to show up for customization around june-july.
I would call them directly if you are looking at purchasing a laptop soon seeing that sometimes luck is better had through the phone than online. -
My understanding after speaking with a Lenovo rep this afternoon is that they aren't available and they aren't sure why. The person I spoke to wasn't even aware that the standard aspect display models had been removed from the website until I brought it to his attention. Given that it is approaching the end of the product cycle for the T61 (the T400 and T500 are coming out in June), I think we may have seen the last of 4:3 displays unless the new models have them as an option. There are probably some available as refurbs though, which is what I plan to buy if new ones aren't available. I refuse to buy a widescreen system because I do a lot of productivity work and I really couldn't care less about widescreen movies filling the whole screen.
-
Lol, widescreen displays actually give you more desktop/work space when compared to a similar resolution on 4:3 displays, not just movies... Not to mention its more natural for the human eye.
-
Actually, that's not always the case. SXGA+ has more pixels than WXGA+.
SXGA+ = 1400x1050 = 1,470,000 pixels
WXGA+ = 1440x900 = 1,296,000 pixels -
Exactly, and 14" widescreen displays aren't generally offered in a resolution higher than WXGA+. Why would I want less useable area? The 14.1" SXGA+ screen gives the best combination of portability and screen area.
-
I agree SXGA+ is the best for a 14" notebook. I just wish the screens were of a bit better quality.
-
Yup. That's why I chose widescreen; for the quality.
-
What makes them higher quality? They're made from the same material.
-
The interesting thing is... I just talked with a sales rep and he actually told me that the standard screen has been discontinued.
-
So I've heard.
-
The distributed widescreen panels have a higher brightness rating (nits).
-
Interesting to know that...I put a Dell Latitude D630 (WXGA+) next to my Compaq Evo N620c (SXGA+) and couldn't tell any difference with the brightness at full on both units. The only difference I noticed was the lower resolution of WXGA+.
-
Well, I don't know about other companies, but Lenovo has it listed in their tabook showing the amount of nits.
