Per the other thread about the guy that broke his screen, i got to thinking (as I always do):
I have a 14.1" 4:3 XGA t60. Can I replace the screen myself with an SXGA one I buy from eBay for $190? are the SXGA and XGA screens direct swaps? what else do I need to make it work? (drivers?) here's a link to the screen:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=270174982949&Category=42188&_trksid=p3907.m29
how hard is it to replace the screen? I had no problem what-so-ever swapping the keyboard, hard drive, and RAM. I've also changed the LCD on my Canon digital camera when it broke (although that was a bit nerve-racking).
thanks!

I have replaced the LCD on an Hp/Compaq laptop with no problem. Also have had my T61 in pieces LCD/Lid
to install UWB antenna. I think its doable if your patient. -
If you care, it is unlikely you will have a warranty after you do it. You're probably better off selling your notebook and getting the one you want.

thank you guys for the advice....
i've been toying with the idea in my head some more. I managed to find the factory repair manual for the t60/t60p as a PDF.... it gives step by step instructions on removing/replacing the screen and all other components.
i compared part numbers from the XGA to the SXGA+ lists - all parts (including cables, hinges, fasteners, etc.) are the same. the only difference between the two are the actual screens.... in which case I found the FRU's to be:
samsung: 13N7059
BOE-Hydis: 13N7061
looks like some people have the samsung screen on ebay for $220..... I think i'll run this screen to the ground 9which won't be very long from the looks of it) and swap out the screens. I think if I'm careful about it, I can swap back the screen in case I need warranty work... it's only 8 screws after all. -
Let us know how it goes, and post pictures
swapping out the screen yourself on a t60?
