Does anyone know if there are any non-crummy panels that could be swapped into a T420s? My new t420s is in the mail but it sounds like the lcd is not even close to the same quality as the rest of the laptop. My t41p lasted around 7 years before the GPU finally de-soldered itself 2 months ago, and if my t420s will last even half as long then it would be nice to be looking at a nice panel during that time. For a laptop that lasts so many years, it might be worth it to drop a few hundred bucks on a new panel.

So, anyone have any idea if there are any better panels that could be used? If so, where can I get one?

    Thanks in advance...

The T420s hardware maintenance manual lists three different LCD modules. The parts lookup tells me that my T420s has the 93P5689 which HWiNFO32 identifies as LG or LPL (LG-Philips). I recall someone having another panel which they thought was AUO. My guess is that the third source could be Samsung.

My panel is acceptable after a lot of tuning. If I knew that one of the others was much better then I would be pushing Lenovo for a replacement. I may be wrong, but I think that Lenovo could have done more to determine the optimum settings for each display panel and code them into the BIOS and/or graphics driver.
