hi, I just got my t400 a couple of weeks ago, and so far I'm very pleased with it. The only thing that bugs me is that the space bar makes an annoying clacking/tapping/popping/slapping sound when I hit it with my normal typing pressure. The rest of the keys (at least those that I use regularly) seem to work just fine (though I've never had a thinkpad/IBM/lenovo before).

If I take extra care to press it really carefully, I can avoid the noise. But its practically impossible to do at my normal typing speed.

Trying to pinpoint exactly what the source of the noise is, I get the impression that the space bar comes down too low on its bottom/right side, slapping against whatever is underneath it. I can get rid of the slapping noise by pressing at the very top of it, but it still sounds noisier than the other keys (though that may be because its a lot bigger).

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

    Thanks.

Why don't you call your sales person or better yet your repair person and get a t61 keypad and try that?
