I'm just about to pull the trigger on a t400 but I want to be 100% certain on this option:

"Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate with Windows XP Professional Downgrade****"

Does this mean the computer will come with vista installed and with XP discs in case I want to switch? I don't want it to arrive with XP installed.

It comes with XP, but you get Vista discs for when you choose to move to Vista.

The XP license is permanently attached to the T400 you purchase too.

    i disgaree...

The one you listed has Vista installed. Here are the two comparisons:
"Genuine Windows Vista Business downgrade to Windows XP Professional" VERSUS "Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate with Windows XP Professional Downgrade****"

By the way the fine print for "****"is:
****The downgrade from Genuine Windows Vista Business or Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate is intended for business, educational, and public sector customers requiring Windows XP Professional and expecting to order at least 25 PCs annually.

But i could be wrong... so.. why don't you quickly call lenovo / chat online with them to ask.. (takes 5 minutes).

This is the way that I ordered mine - it came with XP installed - I had to call them to get the Vista Business recovery CDs.

You can also select Vista Business and check the box for XP recovery CDs - in this case you get it with Vista installed.

The reason you got XP installed because you chose "Genuine Windows Vista Business downgrade to Windows XP Professional" compare to what MrMcgee is talking about is different: "Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate with Windows XP Professional Downgrade****"

Difference are, the business vista option is downgrade to XP. Where as, the ultimate choice installs vista with the capability of downgrading to xp. That's what i think..

of course talking to lenovo would be quick and easy lol. But those options are only in the US.. so i had to scratch my head for a moment...

Mine came with XP Professional installed with backup image installed on SSD, no Vista or XP discs included in box...

I just got off the phone with lenovo. I didn't ask about the other options, but for vista ultimate, this is what these two options mean:

"Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate" -- this is with Vista ultimate installed on system, and there is an option to select free XP discs, but you only see that option when you actually select "Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate" on the website (that's what confused me).

"Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate with Windows XP Professional Downgrade**** " -- this means your system comes with XP installed, and with NO vista discs. You can't switch to vista through anything lenovo gives you with this option. According to the lenovo representative they have to list it that way with vista in the description for contractual reasons, or some BS like that.
