^^Agreed. But good luck getting a wxga+ LED system. I called many times and tried several different lenovo sites and could not find that screen anywhere.

Same here. I called them yesterday and asked them if it possible to "pre"-order - that when ever they get, they save one for me. They told me that no body knows about it, except the guys who are ordering it from China/Taiwan..., and only after they get it from overseas, do they acknowledge if a part is available or not.

Pretty flaky way to do business :) But it works!

i too, am incredibly frustrated by the inability to order a wxga+ led screen on the t400 in the us - especially when it is freely available through lenovo canada. !!!!!

i've been waiting, literally, for weeks and weeks to order my t400 but this option never shows up, and lenovo isn't doing squat about it. obviously the screens are available, as you can order as many as you want if you live in canada, so what gives?

It is what it is. Getting frustrated about it does nothing to get you one.

See the thing is that LED may be nice and all, but it isnt that huge of a deal when you really come down to it. I was upset at first but then I just ordered it without the LED option and will deal with the slightly less battery life.

    Agreed.

i'm under the impression from the reviews and posts here that, battery life aside, the ccfl wxga+ screen is a much poorer display than the led option

the screen is one of the most important parts of a laptop, i think!

While I agree, I don't think the LED vs CCFL will be a huge difference. Granted there is a difference, but not great enough to write home about. But then again I could be totally wrong in this assumption.

While LEDs do offer a bit better battery life and are brighter, they do not enhance image quality. If you want aThinkPad with good screen, get the X61t, X200t or a used T60 with IPS screen.

Why not consider the HP ProBook. It has a LED screen - comes in 14", 15.6" and 17".

I am so wondering that why Lenovo do not offer a WXGA+ LED screen on T400 on their website!

Does anyone know how to order a T400 with the WXGA+ LED screen?

    Thanks

They *sometimes* offer it. It comes and goes in the Lenovo options depending on supply. At present I suspect all the WXGA+ LED screens Lenovo has on hand are going into the T400S, so none left over for the regular T400.

I'm holding out for a WXGA+ high-nit LED screen... do those beasts actually exist?

Do you think the high-nit LED screen is useful?

It is if you often use the laptop outdoors. That said, the new LED screens might be bright enough... dunno yet. The T61 screens are abysmal outdoors.

could there be any chance that they were essentially field testing with canadian consumers first? I hear lenovo canada is the testing ground before implimentation for lenovo us. they did this for their ordering system apparently so maybe they were field testing the WXGA+ LED screens before being ultimately implimented in the T400s as primary screens?

Be happy. In many countries you can't even configure your Thinkpad. If what you want is not on the preconfigured Thinkpads that are offered, you are really out of luck. In some countries you can't even buy certain model numbers. For example, the T500 has never been offered at all here in Taiwan (basically where they are being made (in China I guess)).

And of course no LED screen is available for the T400 here as well.

In order for me to get a T500, I have to import it from another country, which I haven't dared to. And in most countries except the U.S the Thinkpads are very overpriced.

Not to mention I have to witness all U.S customers get good deals because of your coupons, or outlets, which are not available anywhere else it seems.

Sorry for the rant, but I can't even buy the Thinkpad I want...

I doubt it since WXGA+ LED screens were commonly available options on T400's in the US in the past. I have one myself, bought in August 08.

This has happened in the past with 6-cell batteries, bluetooth, and integrated webcams. They'd come and go as options depending (apparently) on parts availability.
