I've got an older t400s that i'm still really happy with. Now I know this model uses the smaller 1.8" micro sata drives as its primary hard drive and I know about the drive bay caddy's as another way to add storage. But I popped off the bottom RAM cover today and I noticed an empty slot, I know the newer t4XXs series laptops come with a small mSata drive installed and i'm wondering if it's possible for me to install an mSata drive in this open port and if it would be recognized by my laptop?

I've attached a picture to help clarify the empty port i'm talking about. Also what is the other small card plugged into the slot with wires attached to it? Thanks in advance for the help

the T400s and T410s are not compatible with mSATA, the empty slot is for a WWAN Card.

There is a way of adding mSATA SSD to the main bay of T400s and T410s that use 1.8" HDD form factor: a mSATA to 1.8" SATA adapter, such as this one (also available here). I've tried with a T410s and the combo works well.
