Hi, I was carrying around my t410s today and I noticed that the laptop looked kind of fat in the back. Upon closer inspection of the back (with the lid closed) I noticed the screen bending upward in an arc! If I push down on the back of the lid, I can move it back to a "straight" position, but it goes back arcing when I move my finger.

Does anybody notice this problem? Is this a cause for concern?

This has long been a feature of thinkpads. It makes the screen casing stronger, just like an arch (actually, more like prestressed concrete). It bends to becoming flat and becoming stronger, rather than bending to curving in and damaging your screen.

This lid design has been standard on all Thinkpads since the T61 generation. The plastic and internal metal bracing will bend downwards under pressure to prevent damage to the screen that is behind it - it's perfectly normal.

Neat-O. Thanks for your responses. There are a lot of features on this Thinkpad I've never heard about.

I can assume that the slight flex in the lid is perfectly normal as well?

One thing that is a little crazy in the T410s is that you can really twist the screen a lot. if you grab the two top corners and push and pull in opposite directions, you can get some serious deflection.

Speaking of the screen's bendyness, I was carrying around my laptop in a fairly tightly packed bag today, and when I opened it I saw a little array of dots in the center of the screen. The nubby mouse had been pressing against the screen and left a mark. Is this a bad thing?

Yep, it becomes strong once you have put some flex into it.

I've heard of it happening. I don't think it'll hurt anything, but you could always take some sandpaper to the bottom of the trackpoint and try to get it down a little further.
