    Hi,

I want to order a Thinkpad t420, I don't use the fingerprint reader really much, and I think its ugly, but will there be a hole or something if I order a model without it?

The model I'm considering to buy has 8G memory(2DIMM), will there still be some space to install a mSATA as a system disk?

    Any clue is appreciated

There will not be a hole. The mSATA drive slots into the mini-PCI slot and has nothing to do with the memory. You can get 8GB of memory and the mSATA, but if you do get the mSATA you cannot get WWAN.

    Thanks for the information.
So, no hole or grove? Fantastic, one more reason to place my order.
About the mSATA, isnt it underneath the memory cover? some pictures I got from web display so, I noticed they have only one DIMM beside the mSATA slot, and I was afraid there will be no such a slot if there are two DIMMs, thats why I asked...

The mSATA slot (or mini PCI-e slot) is next to the memory DIMM slot underneath the system. The two DIMM slots are actually separate from each other, the other memory slot is underneath the keyboard so you don't need to worry about not fitting them all in as the T420 will take the 2 DIMMs and mSATA drive without trouble.

If you haven't opted for the fingerprint option then you just get a flush bezel with no holes/grooves indicating where the fingerprint sensor should be.

Do you realize that the fingerprint reader can be used to start the computer and log you into Windows in just one swipe? It won't change the ugliness, but it might make you think that it is more useful. Additionally, with the Lenovo Fingerprint Software you can log onto websites just by swiping your finger. :)

That would be a nice feature, but I never lock my laptop, bad habit though :p

OK, that's fine. Just didn't want you to be missing out on a feature that some folks find useful.

Like the others said and unlike Dell, if your configuration doesn't have a fingerprint reader, there will be no hole or gap.

Yea I'm not really all into that finger print reader thing myself. I just flip open the notebook and type my password in that takes half a second anyway.

Not sure about the recent finger print scanners but back then on my T43, I remember the finger print swipe always doesnt work well and you'd have to use your other registered finger or clean your fingers/wipe them down to make it work sometimes, which thought it was more of a hassle to me.
