Just unpacked a new t420s. The Ricoh card reader doesn't seem to be working with the cards I have (all SD). I updated the drivers and the device appears to be fine in Device Manager, just doesn't recognize any cards.

Also, the 'yellow' USB port on the back also doesn't recognize my flash drives.

    Related issues perhaps? Any thoughts?

Oops, my mistake, it's the 'blue' USB port. And I just realized it's a problem with the USB port itself. If I pull up on the flash drive (or USB cable for an external drive), the port reads fine. Looking at the port , seems like the two tabs on the bottom face aren't quite raised enough to make solid contact...so pulling up on the connected device makes solid contact.

Try and solve the issue myself first? Little screwdriver perhaps? hmmm...

Still doesn't solve the card reader issue though.

I've had not problem with either of these parts. Assuming that your SD cards come from a variety of brands then perhaps the problem is with the reader. I am assuming that you are pushing the cards in far enough that they lock in (and then eject if you push them in again). As for the USB port, the blue one is USB 3.0 but that's not your problem if you can manually lift the flash drive and get a connection. Try adjusting at your own risk. The metal tabs in my port look flush with the base. I wonder if it is the blue plastic tab that is mis-aligned.

i think you are probably better off sending the laptop to the warranty department or get the replaced with a new one from Lenovo as this is a DOA.
