Hi all, I am about to place an order for my very first IBM thinkpad. I have two configurations to choose from:

    1) T43 14" 1.6ghz GMA 900, 60GHZ 7200RPM HDD, 513MB - XGA
    2) T43 14" 1.86ghz X300 64MB, 60GHZ 7200RPM HDD, 513MB - SXGA

The difference in price from option 1 to option 2 is $275.

This computer will be a dual boot. XP for school work Mad, and Linux for development Laughing . I have never been a game player, and I am sure that I won't be using this machine for high end games.

My basic question is: Is this $275 worth? How much of speed will I get from 1.86 compared to a 1.6 processor? Any experiences of someone running linux on 14" XGA?

p.s. for hardcore development I will have this machine hooked to a 17" display

    $1124 for the 1.6GHZ with the GMA900 - XGA + shipping
    $1394 for the 1.86GHZ with the X300 - SXGA + shipping

What do you think about these quotes? Can I get it any cheaper?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi, I got it buy building my own system from the ibm website and then contacting a sales person by phone to get the student discount. Hope this helps.

The reason to get option two is the SXGA+ screen. If you want a higher resolution screen, I would say it is worth the extra $$$, if not go with option one. There won't much of a differnce in the CPUs.

I was robbed by a sweet little old lady on a motorized cart and I didn't even see it coming.

What was the price for option 2 before the student discount? I think I might get this notebook.

    Hey felipeudel,
I am a student interested in purchasing a T43 myself. What number did you call and what did you tell the salesperson? Does the second option include a 3 year warranty?

    Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply. The email feature to alert me when a message was posted for this thread is not working. I just called the main sales number and asked them about the discount.
