t440s from Lenvo outlet - Should I just buy the HD+ panel and replace with AUO myself?

    Hi everybody,

I am considering buying a t440s from the Lenovo outlet. However, after reading about the issues people are having with the LG panels, I reckon that a lot of the t440s in the outlet will be the ones with the LG panel, since people will have sent theirs back for replacement and they are resold there. So the chances of getting an LG panel from the outlet appear very high.

So now I wondering if I should just buy a t440s with the HD+ panel from the outlet and replace it with a separately purchased AUO panel myself. That would add about $100 to the overall cost, but it looks like much better deals can also be had on the HD+ laptops from the outlet, so that more than offsets that.

Has anybody gone that route, or has anybody replace the screen themselves on their t440s and can tell me whether this idea is feasible or not?

    Thanks

It's up to you whether it makes sense financially (ie: if you're going to pay extra, why not just get a touchscreen T440s model, which for all intents and purposes seems to be a guaranteed AUO screen), but it is perfectly feasible to replace the screen yourself as long as you're reasonably careful.

If you are going forward with the screen replacement, this thread will likely be of interest. Be sure to see Lenovo's T440s HMM as well.

Why not just give the LG screen a try? Yes, the AUO screen is a bit better, but its still a very good screen, I am very happy with mine...

Cause then you're stuck with the touch screen and its associated reflectiveness.

This. I am not planning on touching my screen a lot, so the added cost, weight, and other issues just to get the better panel would just be a waste.

    *snip*

I just ordered new over the weekend, but essentially will do just that. I have no use for a glossy touchscreen, so I also ordered the AUO via Amazon and will replace my HD+ almost immediately.
