I see two that are plain usb, and a third that is something else also. What does it do?
-
Have you looked in the manual?
-
I have downloaded quite a few online and cant find it in them. Dont have paper manuals with me. (At home). I just never think to look when im there.
-
What makes it look like it does something else? I have a W500 (same chassis) and I see 3 standard usb ports.
-
Isn't than an eSATA port?
-
oh that is the displayport, used for video out. There are also 3 normal usb ports
-
I think its an eSATA port, but i cant find any docs that say that..
Yes, there is a display port also, but we are discussing the usb ports.. I think the far right one doubles as something. Its even spaced further apart.. -
Got an answer from lenovo..
Hi joer,
I'm not quite sure what you are talking about. Looking at this image (warning: that link goes to a HUGE image on Flickr) of a T500, I just see three regular USB 2.0 ports. There are two placed close together, but one is a little further away from the others. This was done because some USB devices are physically larger, so if you had all three ports together you might not be able to use more than one at a time. This way you have room for one large USB device and up to two others - or you could fit two large USB devices and the third port would be blocked.
Make sense?

my reply was:

Ah.. On your lan and your usb ports, the icons are on the right, so i assumed that squre icon on the right was for the 3rd usb port, to show that it doubled as something. (Was hoping for eSata or something?)
Thanks for the reply! -
Sorry I think is is only a normal usb, unlike some other manuf's combo esata/usb ports.
-
I guess I could use the Express Card slot for an eSata if I ever need it? How fast would an Express Card slot be for eSata vs on board?
-
if its on the left then its the displayport
can you show us a picture ? -
yes thats the displayport of W500 -
It's a USB that doubles as an ESATA.
