surprised noone has confirmed this yet.
supposedly displayport can do audio but who knows if the t500 has this feature. you'd think if it did they'd be making it more clear.

will post in about a week when my displayport to hdmi adapter arrives. until then i would assume no and the reason is that the displayport is connected to the graphics card, i dont think it is connected to the onboard audio.

As I understand it, the lack of audio is a limitation of the Intel GM45 Express/ICH9M chipset used in the T400 and T500.

No laptop running on Montevina supports audio over DisplayPort.

Montevina = GM45 Express chipset, right?

Yup. But I didn't know about it being a chipset limitation, but makes sense.

Disappointing indeed. It should be clearly mentioned at the product launch that the DisplayPort does not carry audio yet with the specific product. But on the contrary, the text advertised was the general description of DisplayPort, being able to carry both video and audio.

Then it takes many months get it confirmed, if lucky, on a support forum. Was even worse with Apple's mini-DisplayPort.
