Simple way is to wedge a small slip of paper (folded if necessary) between the battery and the laptop. I don't think that's necessary, though, particularly for the flush 6-cell battery--the battery's not going to fall out, even if it wiggles.

i know its going to fall out, its just i don't like the wiggling. i wanted the battery to be more solid because thats how i usually carry it, but its not a big deal.

Does the same happen with a 9 cell?

I think the wiggle is worse with the 9 cell (haven't held a 6 cell machine, though). I was so worried about it falling out that I actually held the machine by just the battery and let it hang. It was fine, so don't worry about it. :p

    Same.

IMHO it's most likely intentional. Batteries are one area where thermal expansion/contraction is a legitimate concern.

slightly lower tolerance means these parts are less likely to break when you insert it with some force, since there is more give.

But it also means that the manufacturers don't have to bin the plastic parts due to mm differences, this also lower the cost of manufacturing.
