My university has a deal with Lenovo where I can get a Thinkpad t60p for $1,805.00(pre-tax and shipping). The specs are as follows:
    Core Duo T2600 / 2.16 GHz
    - Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
    - Centrino Duo
    - RAM : 1 GB
    - HD : 100 GB
    - DVD-Writer
    - Gigabit Ethernet
    - WLAN : Bluetooth, 802.11a/b/g
    - fingerprint
    - 14.1" TFT 1400 x 1050 ( SXGA+ )
    3 year warranty

is this a good deal? or should I opt for this Thinkpad t61 for $1,416.00(pre-tax and shipping):

    ntel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz 800MHz 4MBL2)[1]
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium[12]
    14.1 WXGA TFT, w/o Camera
    NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (128MB)
    2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
    UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)
    100GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm[4]
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim[5]
    Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN[10]
    6 cell Li-Ion Battery[60]
    7662: 1 Year Depot Warranty - Express[7] and 3 year extended warranty

I am not very experienced with notebooks, so I want to know your opinion. Is a t60p better than a t61? also, if I ordered a t61, I would need it to be on my doorstep before august 26ish. What do you guys think?

thats a t2600 core duo on the t60p

you can get a t7400 core 2 duo t60p on lenovo's site configured the same way for about the same price.

it appears you get a little more out of the t61. The only reason to go with the t60p is if you are an engineering student or maybe in some graphics type field. Its not any better for gaming.
