I would like to know about any case issues, however

    My case issues:

    1) pop on lower left bezel

    2) laptop not even (place a piece of paper under each rubber stand, then pull. You will notice the right/front side stand does not touch the ground.)

    3) push down on the area near the wifi switch (has flex)

    4) close the laptop and look at the front, its uneven

Maybe I am going overboard but this is not the build quality I am used to.

My t61 does perform well though (no crashes, BSOD, etc...)

For #4 I have a T60 which supposedly has better build quality than T61s and My lid when it is closed isn't even either. The right side sticks out a tad bit more than the body. Maybe this is unavoidable or really hard to be fixed?

    Can you post a picture?
My T60 seems to be having no build issues.

I have problems 1 and 4, but neither is really noticable unless you're specifically looking for them. All in all, build quality is still better than most laptops I've used.

Wow I'm glad batman listed these bc mine has all four issues. The lopsided rubbers marks through me off as well, and explains issue #4. Pretty shoddy attention to detail on Lenovo's part.

    Check out the difference:

right front showing middle ridge extended

Oh... At first I didn't see it but good job at pointing it out. Does it make it wobble? Does it affect the stability if you are on an inclined surface?

    Thanks for the pics!

After seeing them, I'm starting to think this isn't such an epidemic after all. The front of the machine doesn't look warped and only a few people have stepped up and reported anything amiss. There are probably thousands of T61s in the wild by now.

If my machine arrives warped I wouldn't be very happy but I'd probably use the double sided tape trick and extend the foot enough so I can pass the "paper pull" test.

mine seems to be perfect in every way.

I am not seeing the problems you are seeing.

I have the 15.4" with apls keyboard and LG screen. I couldn't be happier with the quality of this thing. Built like a tank but runs like. . . uh something fast... (at a lost of words)

Fortunately no wobble effect is present. I'm beginning to wonder if the asymmetry of the rubber footing is deliberate - perhaps to correct a misaligned frame on these Singapore models...?

Tony, I have the same exact uneveness in the rubber footing. Mine doesn't wobble, but what concerns me about the issue is that I thought maybe the frame or chassis was bent.

Maybe this explains it, might apply to the 61 as well-

Just to put things in perspective:

Back when I got my T4x, I scrutinized every little detail. And there were threads just like this one: batteries from China wobble a bit when installed, exchange for the JP ones. lower right corner of LCD slightly unevenly lit, must be defective, exchange for a new system. LCD lid latch catches on one side before the other, argh, where is IBM quality going? Right palmrest squeaks a bit when you press down, must be a design flaw in the whole series.

Now, 3 years later, it's still steaming along like a champ. The only "real" issue imo is a construction difference between the NMB and Alps keyboards, something which is still being talked about today I see.

But anyways, there are defects and then there are defects. If you try not to let the little stuff get you down, you'll enjoy the laptop more :) Perfect physical build is pretty hard to accomplish (and IMO if that's what you're gunning for, your bet may be better getting a MBP *ducks*)

Yep, and you'll really appreciate it when you see people open up their laptops and have permanently marred keyboard patterns covering the screen!

I had all the problems listed at the beginning of the thread.

And after one week days with my (now returned) T61, there was constantly a nice fat circular imprint on the LCD screen right where the screen meets the keyboard.

Apparently, the much fabled arch didn't prevent the touchstick from rubbing against the screen when the lid was shut, but at least no keyboard patterns.

    Had MS Singapore label

Mine T61 (original and all replacement units sent by lenovo) shows case issues. All of them says COA from singapore :(
