So I apologise if this has been answered here before, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Anyway, two questions:

    1) Can you still get a t61 14" w/ WXGA+? It doesn't seem to be an option on the website.

    2) There are XGA and SXGA+ t61's listed in the 14" section. They cost more and it says they're "new" what's the difference? Why pay more for XGA?

Any idea what the weight would be w/ 9-cell?

There are supply issues with the WXGA+ screens. They are not being offered at the moment.

Standard screens are not being made it larger quantities anymore hence the higher price. On a 14" notebook, I much prefer SXGA+. It is almost as wide, but the 1050 vertical resolution is good for things like Office and Internet where being wide doesn't help much.

Thanks for the response. So the standard screens cost more just b/c they sell fewer? There's no other benefit to those models? Also, are they bigger than the widescreen notebooks and do they weigh a little more?

Now I feel sort of special for getting the last wxga+ screens. LOL

Back to topic, I don't think there is a major difference between the wxga and wxga+. In fact a lot people prefer wxga screens.

Out of curiosity, who prefers wxga screens? Is it just because of the resolution, or are people claiming that the wxga screens are higher quality? I know that wxga+ screens are brighter...

even though the screen sucks, i prefer widescreen formats since i do watch a fair share of movies on my laptop.

As you produce more the cost per unit goes down meaning you can sell them for less.

Yeah, I know :) . I just thought maybe there was something else going on there to make it worth the extra cost.

So are you saying that the standard aspect screens are higher quality than the widescreen?

The enhanced 14.1 widescreens {1400*900} ARE available, only not directly (currently) through the lenovo main site.

To get such a screen included on your order, you must call lenovo sales on the phone requesting the WXGA+ screen.

Potentially, some phone sales reps may be disinclined, for whatever reason, to make this change, but others, not so.

Naturally, this modification may delay your order some more, and also likely invalidates any click-through discounts (such as FatWallet, possibly VisaPerks) applied to your original online order.

However, yesterday's tax free MA shopping holiday discount can be preserved, of interest for those who live in the Bay State.

If you mean discounts, such as yesterday's 10%-off coupon, those are not affected by telephoning Lenovo sales reps. I presume that's what you mean by online normal discounts/coupons.

My understanding is, if you've applied these coupons to your online order initially, they won't vanish on you (even if the coupon has since expired) when you call Lenovo on the phone so as to modify some part of your order.

It's the cash-back/credit-back schemes that may disappear on you, such as FatWallet's current 4% rebate, or TailorMade's 5%/7%/10% from last month.

Correct. $30 (non spp price). Same as if you'd ordered via their site.

That I doubt very, very much. But since I've never asked...

It was available Mon & Tues. I know because I spoke with Lenovo reps both days in connection with my order.

I'm still trying to get comped for Fatwallet before proceeding - I dislike losing that 4% discount just because the wxga+ option wasn't readily available on their site Sunday.

gah. i actually called in twice today. the first rep i dealt with was unable to access their intranet apparently because they were servicing/changing it (probably removing wxga+ entirely), so he said he would get back to me. i decided to try calling someone else a few hours later, and by then he said he couldn't get wxga+ at all. aren't i lucky...
