We found this in the storage closest while dropping some cable and luckily the company owner is my relative and now this little beauty will find a good home. It's got a decent 1400 x 900 screen but I'm wondering what other screen I can add. I think there are some Dell's from this time period which had swxga+ or wuxga on a 14 or 14.1 screen? Can I mod those screens on? I'm going to put of course middlleton bios, do some cooling mods and maybe add some more vent holes and take out some unneeded parts to lighten it. Make it a nice light old school ibm travel machine as I don't want to travel with my brand new 2k touch screen ultrabook right now as it is still pristine.

As far as I know the best you can do is WXGA+. There were definitely no Dells (or any other laptops I know of) from this era with 14.1 16:10 screens with a higher resolution than WXGA+.

Very nice! It pays to have relatives in various places at times  The 14.1" WS T61 is similar to a T400 (which I have owned two times in the past). The small footprint of the 14.1" WS is good for those who move around a bit compared to something like a T500 (which I currently use as a desktop replacement). If you are a fan of LED backlit screens you may want to ask at TPF if some modification exists in which a WXGA+ LED-backlit screen from a T400 (or whole lid) might fit the T61 body. If the whole lid is possible it would definitely be easier! One T400 I owned had a very bright WXGA+ LED screen which was not too shabby however I do not remember the part or FRU number. All I remember is it was from LG-Phillips. CCFL lighting does start dimming over time compared to LED so that might be something to think of. Congratz on your acquisition :)

Unfortunately, one can't fit a T400 lid onto a T61 base. Not to mention the fact that the LCD cabling is different between the two.

Could the screen swap be done with some creativity and hacking? Yes.

Is it worth it? Not in my opinion.

If it were mine, I'd leave it "as-is".

    Good luck.
