My new T61 (standard screen) recently started clicking whenever I put pressure where my left palm rests on the plastic housing. It seems to be caused by this mysterious black square on the front of the case:

When I press in on this black square, the left palm area stops clicking when pressure is applied. Here is another picture of it:

Any ideas what might be causing this? What is that black square for? A different but similar minor annoyance is that the left side of the plastic keyboard border gives and squeaks when pressed:

Anyone else experiencing the same thing? Thanks for the help.

That Black Rectangle is the location of the Infrared Sensor. I have the 14" T61p and that area of the palm rest does not click.

On my R61 14" widescreen that I just bought, the firewire port is where your black rectangle is. My palmrest clicks also. My laptop was shipped with a defective keyboard so I sent it in to the service depot and asked them to take a look at the palmrest too. They reinstalled it in the process of replacing the keyboard and it is a little better now but still wiggles a bit.
