    Hi.

    Need some clarification.

Im living in Qatar, and have found T61 for sale, from Shop which still has in stock(but not on display) and as they no longer work with Lenovo I suppose they cant return.

I havent see it yet, but as per the sales man, he states these stats.

2.6 Ghz, 2GB Ram, 200MB, 256MB Dedicated Graphic Memory, and Vista(No further detail on type or 32/64), no camera.

Ive tried to get more details, like which graphic card it has, but he doesnt know.

Ive Googled it, and it seems only the T61p had 256MB Quadro or ATi x1600...

BUt I managed to get the model number: EL47 7661 7WV or ZWV (not sure), and it does seem to be a T61.

Checked Tabook, but T61´s no longer appear.

They are selling it in Qatar for 4290QR(1175US) down from 6880 QR (1885US).

Can anyone please recall what the options where for the T61´s.
Which graphic card would it probably have?
Ive read an issue with the dedicated graphic chip separating from MoBo, was this the case for the later T61 versions?
Would you shun away from this laptop for some reason(apart from price)?

NOTE: I tried buying a USA T400s from Qatar through Lenovo, but failed :( and need sturdy laptop for trip back to europe...

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The T61's had the Integrate Intel X3100 chips or the Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M discrete GPU. Try to find out if it has an Nvidia or Intel GOU and we can help you. If it says that it has a 256MB dedicated GPU memory, then I would also say it is the specs for the T61p. The T61p had the Nvidia Quadro 256MB card.

The GPU separating issue was on the Thinkpad 4x series not the 6x series. The 6x had a different problem and that is with the improper shrinking and expanding of the material during heating and cooling cycles. Some people have experienced failures some have not. I don't think this issue was ever resolved. I have had my T61p for almost 2 years and it has been great.

I think it only affected certain Quadro GPUs, which are in the T61p.

Flip the machines over and note down their Model / Type / Serial No and check their specs and warranty status (most probably expired) on the IBM/Lenovo website.

This is a surefire and indisputable way to confirm seller's claims, and ascertain the original equipment vs post purchase upgrades.

Which is yet another reason why ThinkPads are great.

Anyway, if you travel regularly, I would suggest that you buy new & shell out a bit extra for a 3 yr international warranty (IWS). Repairs are costly if you ever need them. Even a sturdy ThinkPad benefits from extended warranty - especially when you need to depend on it.

Maybe, but I read all Nvidia 8x cards including desktop cards were affected.
