hi, i got the restore disks from lenovo yesterday.
because of the lcd screen is not working...maybe some driver problem?
and i connect to external monitor to try to restore to factory.
but the process failed when it is almost complete, at the stage it is installing preinstalled software i think. and then the screen went blank, the harddrive light is not on for a long time, seems like nothing is operation. so i waited for like 3 hours, it was still like that, so i turned off it with the power button. when i turn it on now, when it pass the loading bar page, it can not get into windows.

it will just give a blank screen, and after awhile it will reboot by itself.

i tried safemode, and when i get into safemode, it will pop up a message says can not finish installation in safe more, please enter windows from normal mode. but the normal mode does not work...

and i tried with normal start up one more time, it gives me this message on blue screen:

    *** hardware malfunction

call your hardware vendor for support

NMI: parity check /memory parity error

    *** the syatem has halted***

so i am not sure what is wrong with it? could it be hardware problem? like video card, hard drive?
or it could be files or the drivers on the hard drive mess up?
how can i try to complete wipe off everything on the hard drive?
does the harddrive manufacture has some kinda of software to do so?
    thanks all..

    thank you for your reply..
looks like something is wrong is the video card....
but i do not know if it is driver problem or the hardware...
should i try to wipe off everything in the hard drive and try the restore all over again??
or should i do a hard drive check to see if the hard drive is health first?
how do i find out which manufacture my hard drive is?
and how do i check or complete wipe off everything on the hard drive??
    thanks all.

Check the memory modules, try one at a time.

That's what I would guess. Try reseating, and maybe test with Memtext, if you can. Here's a link. You'll have to burn it to a CD.

maybe your hard drive is corrupted. i bought my t42 used and it had the bluescreen with malfunction page popping up but after i accidentally physically broke the hard drive, the new hard drive worked just fine. no blue screen never.
