I replaced the trackpoint top with the traditional dome head that came in the little bag with my laptop. It seems like this head sticks up about one millimeter above the top of the keys. Is there any chance that it's touching/damaging the lcd when the laptop lid is closed?

yeah, the one with the concave surface on top touched my lcd and left a really thin circle of grease on the lcd. But there's no way that could damage it as the part that touched was quite thin and flexible.
