hey everyone, going to be ordering today but still cant decide which model.... i currently have a t43 and have had experience with a t61 and like it... at the same time ive been wanting something smaller and lighter, but have not actualy seen a x61 in person... is it too small? anyone with experience with both? i am leaning towards the x61 and i would have them setup just about the same as far as power and everything goes except i would get the t61 with the better graphics card, but do not really play games so the x61 not having that isnt really a huge downside to me...

I just received my X61 and let me tell it is small and light. If portability is big issue ut is the way to go. My suggestion for you would be to go to your local Best Buy. They usually have a 12" model that will give you an idea of the size compared to the larger notebooks. Just keep two things in mind: 1. The X61 is not widescreen and it does not have a trackpad so it may be even smaller than what they have one display.

Personally, I like the size if the X61 compared to the T61 since I travel often, it's quite a lot smaller than the T61. But if you're not moving around too much, then maybe the T61 is a better overall machine for everyday tasks. Also, the X61 doesn't have a widescreen, so it depends on your preferences. 13.3" is still my favorite size though.

well i am still a student so while i do not travel through airports or on trips all that often, i do take it with me to class alot, so the smaller size would be a plus.... what are the downsides to the x61?

The X61 is a great machine, but my only concern about it is the screen resolution. I've seen a X61t with the sxga+ resolution and it's very nice, but the usual xga resolution on the X61 is very limiting. In this aspect the T61 with a wxga+ screen wins hands down.

Now, in terms of portability the X61 is awesome. The T61 is still a portable machine, but doesn't come even close to the X61. The X61 is much lighter and easier to carry around, especially if you're taking your laptop everywhere.

The bottom line is, if you value portability and weight more than screen real estate, then go for the X61. If you really need the screen real estate and doesn't care to carry a few extra lbs then go for the T61.

If you take it to class a lot, then I'd suggest the X61.

Downsides compared to the T61? Not much, except the graphic card and screen resolution.

id say get the t16 14inch if you need the graphic card, else you can get 12inch with an external monitor
