So you just assume the hard drive space fluctuation is a result of your RAM upgrade? That sounds like specious reasoning to me, if not dubious as well.

Find out if System Restore was scheduled to make backups. Delete them if they exist. Find out if Rescue and Recovery was scheduled to make backups. Delete those too. When you're done, get back to us about your hard drive space issue.

hhhmm ..."specious" and "dubious" ...argued like a lawyer .. ..may be u are right ...there is no connection at all ..but the only reason i started noticing it was ..becoz i was paranoid after my ram installation and was looking for possible errors in the system .....and to my surprise i started noticing this hard disk space fluctuation .....

So wats the solution again ??? :) ....system restore scheduled backups ...does the system automatically do this ..i dint opt for any ..and if the system automatically does ..where can i find these back up files and delete them ....

similarly for the Rescue and Recovery ....where to find the backups ....

    thanks for the info ..

Also, since you added 1GB, Windows will change the virtual memory to match your RAM. I believe Vista keeps it dynamic and thus it changes the amount of HD space it uses for virtual memory on the fly, which would help with why HD space keeps changing. Go into the setting and set the paging file size to a static number and use the static number that Windows recommends. This will also help with having less fragmentation of the paging file.

it sounds like its doing shadow backups, use the system clean up wizard and there is a tab there that will allow you to delete all restore points but the last one made.
