I just got my t61p a couple weeks ago, I have 2.2mhz dual core, 2 gigs of ram, windows xp pro and Internet Explorer 7.

I notice that when I click on the IE icon it takes a few seconds to open IE or if I open a new broswer window, that also takes a few seconds. Other computers I have which are less powerful but still running windows xp pro with IE 7 do not have this problem, IE opens instantly like it should.

Does anybody know why this could be happening on this laptop? I haven't changed any of the factor software besides removing the norton antivirus from the system, but besides that, it's just like it came from Lenovo..

    thanks

It's not normal for a computer with these specs + running XP

    Have you looked for spyware/adware?

I know the answer to this. I too had the same problem before the XP clean install but I found the solution before the clean install:

Open up a blank IE page. Then click on the upper right gear icon (tools) and manage add-ons > disable or enable add-ons.

Disable all the unnecessary ones. It's been awhile since I did this but the culprit for slow IE startup is a ThinkPad add-on. Google each and every thirdparty add-on to find out what it does and if you need it or not.

IE should run much faster after this.

Edit: Disable this, CPwmIEBrowserHelper Object, Lenovo (United States) Inc.

It's the Lenovo Password manager browser add-on. I think it's part of the ThinkVantage Client Security Solution.

I still recommend you go through each third-party add-on and disable the ones you don't need. If it says it's from Microsoft, you should leave it alone. But the ones from Lenovo, messengers, and other programs, you should google them and decide whether to keep it or not.

if you do a fresh windows xp install.. I have a few problems..

1.) my laptop didn't come with any sort of cds, so no installation or windows cds.

2.) I am afraid that if I did a fresh install all of that ibm utilities for the power management, wifi, etc. would be lost and I do like these utilities..

3.) I'm just concerned that some other drivers could be missing and have issues from there on out.

A clean installation is really a last resort kind of thing. If you're still at a university or college, you can purchase a disc from your IT department for very very cheap. I got mine for $10. It's labeled as student media edition but it's the exact same thing as XP Pro. If you're not in a university, maybe you can call a family member who does go to school and ask them to buy you one and you'll pay.

After a clean install, you still have the choice to install those IBM utilities. It's all on their website. My computer works flawlessly with wireless, bluetooth, ethernet, all working. As for the utilities, I only find the Power Manager useful. Some may find the Active Protection useful too.

If you follow the XP clean install guide in my sig carefully, you will not have any missing drivers.

And like I said, a clean install is not mandatory. Your slow IE issue should be solved now. A clean install is just recommended, that's all.

yup the slow ie issue is due to the following addon in interenet explorer:

    CPwmIEBroswerHelper Object

If you disable this, IE runs nice and fast again!

Dude, look into switching to Mozilla Firefox... It is much more secure than Internet Explorer, and much more customizable as well. Check it out here:

    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

I HIGHLY recommend you try it at the very least... I did and never use Internet Explorer unless I have to(FTP,etc...).
