Hello and Thank you for helping me with these very basic questions about using a 4GB MicroSD HC in the front ExpressCard/SmartCard slot.

This is the product I am asking about: http://sandisk.com/Products/Item(2369)-SDSDQ-4096-A11M-SanDisk_microSDHC_4_GB.aspx# and its SD Adapter. I tried looking at the FAQ page for it here http://www.customernation.com/pls/p...=5096&p_parm=PSHFAQ&p_subcategory=&p_product= but it does not ever display anything. It's a blank page

:) When I insert the 4GB MicroSD HC into my mobile phone, I can read and write data.

 When I insert the 4GB MicroSD HC into its SD Adapter, and then into my Lenovo T61 laptop with Windows XP SP2 with this driver installed: MultiMediaCard FlashPath Driver - Win XP (SDDR-22) dl from http://www.smartdisk.com/Support/Downloads/Software/fpsd-mmc_v17003_w2k_winxp_English.exe, then I cannot access nor format it.

 When I insert the 4GB MicroSD HC and SD Adapter into my digicam which uses the SD format, the camera malfunctions (no image on the display, slow to turn on and off.)

I've tried doing this with the lock tab on and off on the SD Adapter.

:) When I insert a different, good/working 1GB SD card from the digicam into my Lenovo T61, the 1GB SD card works fine.

So what am I missing? I guess the only possibility is that the SD Adapter is bad, but how likely is that, since it's just a pass-through device? :err:

    TIA!

Try putting it in and rebooting.

This might not be helpfull but I'd be interested to see where exactly the problem lies. Try to isolate the problem more.

    Can you answer the following?
1 - will the SDHCmicro card in its SD adaptor work in another computer?
2 - what digital camera are you using, is it SDHC compatible?
3 - Will a SDHC card with in the T61?

    Hi Gmoney,
Your questions led me to the answer.

I only inserted the SDHCmicro card in its SD adaptor into a second digicam, but then a message came up that it was *locked*. NP, I unlocked it, and then the second digicam worked and recorded data. I then stuck it in my T61, and it worked! Then I stuck it in my phone, and it worked there too.

BUT...then I inserted it back into the first digicam and then into the T61, and I had the original problem. So I checked and the first digicam is NOT SDHC compatible, but the second is.

So the second digicam has the ability to format an SDHC card properly after it has been formatted improperly (which is what happened after inserting it into the first digicam), but the T61 does NOT have the ability to format it after improper formatting. :(

    All's good. :)

    1. SDHC are not compatible with most older SD devices (most likely, you camera).
    2. Some built-in non-HC SD card readers in laptops can be made to read SDHC with this patch from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934428 but this won't work for USB/PCCard/ExpressCard cardreaders.

All is no longer good :(
After moving and deleting files on the SDHCmicro card in the mobile phone, then inserting SDHCmicro card in its SD adaptor and then in the T61 ExpressCard/SmartCard slot, I get the original error: The card shows up in My Computer as "SD / MMC (D :)" and when I click on this icon I get "Please insert a disk into drive D:." :(

I then put the card back into the second, compatible digicam, and the card cannot be read. I then put the card into the mobile phone, and the files are readable and fine.

So, now just please answer: Is this normal? Does anyone else have an SDHC/MMC card that works fine in your digicam, mobile phone and T61?
