has anyone installed win 8.1 on the t420? I did from scratch and didn't install any drivers from lenovo. I was wondering how the power management works because mine charges till 90% without any programs. How come? Should I install win 7 power manager?

I think your battery works the way it used to before your OS upgrade, because the settings are saved in the battery itself (until further changed by the Power Management program).

I did go ahead and install the Windows 7 Power Manager and it's worked fine so far, so I would recommend doing that anyways.
