i am considering buying a lenovo t400 with p8400, 2gb of ram, led screen, 4 cell battery. i have been hearing a lot from the "when did your t400 ship" thread that many of the laptops were shipped late, is this still true. also i don't understand what is the difference between the depot and the onsite warranty. when i click on the depot warranty it tells me that they will send out a technician if they can't solve it over the phone. help me with these questions please. and lastly are you guys impressed with your t400s

T400 is an awesome machine based on my research (just bought a T61 with a great deal since it is being phased out). One thing about the shipment delay is that you can also buy a pre-configured model from other retailers if you can find what you have in mind. my 2 cents.

Depot you mail it in for repair. On-site they send a tech to you to fix it wherever you are.

The people whose systems shipped early don't post complaints. My T400 had an 8/28 estimated ship date w/ standard shipping but I received it on 8/27 (shipped 8/21).

I am very happy with my T400; I've seen and used T61's and am glad I waited. The LED screen is great.

Is the t400 lighter than the t61 14 inch?

To break the trend of only negative news getting posted. I ordered my T400 last week with an estimated ship date of 9/12. I received an email today saying it's on the UPS truck. There you go, shipping ahead of times.

I pretty much got every option decked out on the thing, 4 gigs, LED, 2.8, intel 5300, etc...

To correct/amend my previous post, canceled T61 and ordered an T500 today. The T500 has a ship date of 9/15. Also ordered extra 2G stick, which has a ship date of of 10/17. So the delay could be the ram? Not necessarily I think since the ram that will be in T500 probably won't be IDENTICAL to what I ordered as an accessory. These things should be globally sourced. The only explanation would be that ThinkPad is in such a high demand and blow competition away! (I know it since I am using a brand new Dell D830 at work. The only brand that can be compared to thinkpad now is HP nc/nx lines. To me Dell is like a second tire player as far as quality is concerned)

Shipping is normal, in some cases faster than usual. Only people who ordered early had some problems. I ordered 8/25, got shipped yesterday. 1 week shipping.
