I am thinking about switching to the t61 from my alienware m9750. They are exact opposites. I have a few questions first.
1. Can I set the fingerprint reader to scan my fingers as an option to log in?
2. Does the notebook come with stickers about what it has in it? eg. vista stickers
3. does the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (128MB) run cooler than the 570m or dedicated cards?
4. How well does aero work on vista with the 140m?
5. How much better is the T9300 (2.5GHz 800MHz 6MBL2) than my t7200 (2.0ghz 667mhz)
6. What is drive encryption?
edit: 7. does anyone have a picture of the t61 with a 9 cell battery?

1)Yep you don't really even need to set it up just scan your fingers and it is set!
2)It has the Intel Centrino sticker, Vista sticker, and energy star sticker
3)Yes it will run cooler but that is because it is much weaker
4) don't know
5)It is noticeably better (my dad has one in his laptop) it runs cooler and faster
6)It just puts your data a harder to read form its usually done in big companies so it is harder for people to steal your info.
7)Just give me a second and I'll have them up! -
thank you so much. I have had a horrible time with my alienware laptop and people on the alienware forum and this might convince me to get an ibm. Also, I am thinking of getting 3gb ram (instead of 4gb) and vista premium (instead of ultimate) in change for the 500 whatever.
-
should I get the 140 or the 570? 128mb was bad on my last laptop so I am thinking about the 570.
I can get the t61p with vista premium and 3gb ram and the 570
or
I can get the t60 with vista ultimate and 4gb ram and the 140 -
Was getting ready to post something also, but instead of starting another thread....
How's the display? I will not be able to see one locally and I just send a Dell 1720 back b/c the display $ucked big time. I love the Sony display's, but am torn between the FZ and AR. I am just looking for a solid laptop and the fact the T61 has a nice dock leads me to forget the AR w/17" screen. Also, the 25% off right now is very nice. -
and Sir, I do not see a 570 option, only the 140. Am I missing something?
I also can't really tell which is a p and which is not? And is the T series just built better than the R series?
Please enlighten me joooeee!
OK, I see the difference in the 140 and 570 now. Duh... -
it's a different notebook
t61p not t61

I see now, said the blind man.....
-
1) Premium has most of the features of Ultimate and you don't really need the extra features.
2)It ships with Vista 32bit so you can only use 3.17GB of RAM not much point in going with 4GB
3)The 570 is WAY more powerful than the 140
A suggestion don't buy your RAM from Lenovo you can get 4GB of RAM from Fry's or Newegg for $70 and install it your self it is very easy.
Look at the review and comparison of the screens in my sig for more info.
The T series really dosen't seem to differ much at all in the lower models but the T series has the Highest end models. -
Thanks guys - yes, looking at the "p" now - like the better graphics and joooeee I did see your pics after I posted. Yes that screen looks great. 2 yr onsite or 3 year depot?
-
The nice part about Lenovo's offerings is that Business 64 costs the same as Business 32. They also have an XP option. -
-
I typically work from home and that was why I like onsite. In reading around, some depots are better than others - Lenovo sounds like onsite would be better.
However, I am not sure if I am willing to take a chance on the monitor. That's what happened to me on the Dell. If I get a Samsung....well, I might not be as happy. Man, buying a laptop is harder than buying a car! -
Well while the Samsung screen isn't great it is still good. Before I got the LG the Samsung was plenty bright and the viewing angles didn't bother me because I was never looking at it from the side.
-
I know - but I have a Sony, so the bar is kinda high on the display quality! Damn, just did a T61p for about $2K and after discounts and coupons - $1350!
Have I read correctly elsewhere - if I don't like the screen I have to pay 15% restocking fee? Dell did not charge me anything - cost me $25 total to send it back. -
im sending back my alienware... 15 percent restocking fee is correct - dell is partnered with alienware, so I assume there will be a fee
btw I am getting the t61p for the alienware
