I have a t61 and r61 and both are great. If you are on a budget choose the R61..there is not any differences between the two series and it cost less that the t61. The tech support has always been outstanding when I had to call them some might have had different experiences.

ahh...lenovo have the same problem, but when you get lucky, you will have a rep that can speak english fluently. Their local store service is awesome though, better than some of the stores such as future shop, best buy, and etc.

Get the thinkpad that has a integrated graphics card since you won't be gaming, it will have a very good battery life!

Lenovo has offices in the U.S. Call one of those and you'll be fine with understanding them.

And about your uses, I'm not sure if a ThinkPad is what you want to watch movies. There are other companies like HP that makes better screens for movie viewing. Then again, the R series make glossy screens.

If you want a laptop to last you for the next 5+ years, ThinkPads are the way to go. ;)

Try filling the FAQ if you have time, it will surely bring up some new candidates. As for your question, if you are getting a 14.1" and portability is an issue, get the T61. The R61 is know to be a tad heavier and bulkier than the T61.

T61 is ideal for portability. As others have said, the R61 is .2" thicker than the T61 and barely any heavier, but personally I haven't noticed it. It's still one of the thinnest 14" "budget" business notebooks available.

That being said, there are a few other things to consider. With the R61, you lose WWAN capability and the option of a high-end graphics solution (however, if you stay with a non-p model, you'll get the same video card throughout the T series as the R).

If high-def is important to you now, you can get a Blu-Ray drive on the R61 whereas there is not one available for the T61 at the moment.

Other than that, the differences are minimal.
