Thinking of taking advantage of the visa perks discount and getting an x61. It seems like the options for an x61 are somewhat limited. One that comes to mind is the graphics card...it comes with a built-in intel 1300 (?). Would I be able to call in and get Lenovo to upgrade it to an nvidia or some stand-alone graphics card instead?

You can only upgrade the graphics card if it's an option on their site. Otherwise, you're not going to get it changed.

Yep. Read this thread for reasons why you cannot upgrade the graphic card in a notebook( Upgrading Mobile Graphics Cards)

If you are looking for a laptop with a dedicated card for gaming(or 3d modeling), your options will be limited if you want to use a 12" laptop.

In a small 12'' laptop, you are unable to have a powerful graphic card inside, or it will be too hot for you to use the laptop.
