How many cells is the battery and how quickly does it die. Also what are your system specs

I think that all the T series (40-43) will be coming up for a battery replacement. This series began rolling out in '03 or thereabouts and both my T40's batteries have grown weak.
I don't use my lappie on battery that much, so this isn't that a big a deal for me, but on one of them the yellow light of creeping death started constantly flashing and when unplugged would die 10 minutes later, so I replaced the battery. The other T40 still maintains about 2 hrs charge and I will continue to use what I have.
It's hard to know your battery usage but if you really need, I would replace when you determine you can't complete what your doing on battery power.

Personally I probably have no more then 1 hr need for battery power, so if it lasts 2 hrs that is perfectly fine for me.
