Zbook 14 is pretty close. If you are used to a 16:10 13.3" screen , it has comparable screen area.

but is the typing experience comparable too? I look at zbook's up/down arrow keys and cannot imagine using them without frustration...

The X240 ThinkPad just started being offered with a 1080P screen option, so there's that.

Then again, those seem to cap out at 8GB RAM since there's only a single slot on them, and no released 16 GB sodimms

Latitude E7240. Just don't pay full price. Grab one from business outlet with one of those frequent 25-30% off coupons, or order through chat to have it fully customized with 1080p and stuff.

    Best 13 inch laptop is:

    Clevo W230ST

Its what i currently have. Its one hell of an awesome machine. Its quite cheap, you can get them for about $1,100 depending on the config.

    Really? Terrible?

I mean its not as good as a thinkpad but its totally fine. Its MUCH better then the Vaio pro 13 keyboard for example.

I rate it about average to / better then average. The keys are fairly stiff, they have a decent amount of movement up and down.

Also if you compare it to smaller laptops like the Vaio Pro 11, its just miles ahead. I mean typing on a Pro 11 is almost impossible.

So i guess it really depends on what league your comparing it to. If your a programmer and you type all day long ... you are probably better off with a thinkpad, but otherwise you should really have no problem. I have no complaints.

I actually have a small video review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA9JV2F10aw

Why do you limit yourself to just 13"? The 14" T440s is smaller and lighter than quite a few 13" laptops. Otherwise it meets the criteria.

    does the T440s have a GTX 765m? =P

I came from a Vaio Z so I liked 13 inch. I rarely play games alone at home. I pretty much only game when going to friends houses so its nice to just have a laptop i can bring anywhere easily to play any game.

If it was my choice i would get a Vaio Z 2013 but... that doesnt exist. =(

thx guys at least now I have some choices to search. I'm used to a 15" w520 14' t420, t420s but lately my back doesn't like sitting in a chair for that many hours. I work remotely a lot now every 2 hours I get off the chair and work from my couch. I've really started liking to work with a 12.5 laptop on my lap. Surprisingly my 12" hp 2560p is my favorite for this, it's sturdy, it's super cool on my lap, but the resolution is horrible, I may spend a few hundred and see if I can retro fit a 1080p screen on it. Otherwise the dell and clevo look like good candidates.

Be warned: Don't buy the Clevo W740SU (Iris Pro graphics). It looks like a great laptop but the build quality is God awful. I bought one in the summer and ended up sending it back on multiple occasions, only having it in my hands for 2 weeks out of about 4 months.

The T440s is 14" but it is in a 13" frame so you get more screen space compared to 13" laptops.
