I want buy a T500/T400 mainly for java programming (TDD) and NOT gaming . we have more 2000 small test files on HDD per project so i want a fast thinkpad but still have FAQs :
1- in 7200rpm HDD : which is faster ( 160G or 100G) since i see most people select 160G
2- its worth for fast T9400 (2.53GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2) vs
P8400 (2.26GHz 1066MHz 3MBL2) 25W
3- or 256BM discrete VGA is more effective (for fast) than cpu with 6mb cache
4- when will WMAX and 15" LED available for TXXX?

1. 7200 rpm might be overkill for just programming.
2. that processor is probably way too fast for just programming. actually, might come in handy when compiling.
3. discrete graphics is definitely overkill for just programming
4. dunno mang
if u'r just programming, i'd go with options that give you the longest battery life. I used to program and I LOVED doing it at coffee shops so I could check out all the hot MILFS on the scene. Gives you a chance to change your work environment too. Usually, I'd be near a plug, but it sucked when my "work" got interrupted by a low battery warning.
Save some money on the discrete graphics and buy a replacement T60 or T61 keyboard, which I'm SURE you will find more useful. -
1) faster HD: for compiling, emulate an SQL server, vmware, just do it man... trust me 7200 rpm please =).
2) Why not p8600? that would be my choice.. because it's 25W but faster than the P8400. More battery life is pure love... when you're programming.... sometimes you need a change of environment... aka trip to the kitchen lol... or Starbucks (Free internet for Bell Customers)
3) Integrated... if you want to save money.. if you have the greens... DISCRETE! because you have the hybrid.. so if you want to save power.. then swap it to the integrated vid card.
4) Wimax... end of the year? T500 LED... i personally don't see it coming but that's just a "feeling" nothing to backup my answer... -
only because i think double cache of T9400 is more effective for speed than a few ghz of p8600 ? -
please can everyone answer above two faq ...........

computer programming isn't intensive
-
which 7200rpm HDD is faster (160G or 100G) ?

My machine's use is primarily programming as well. When searching around, it dawned on me that pretty much every machine was FAR more than I needed. I'd imagine, if the sole purpose of your machine is programming as well, you're fine with the minimum's unless you're doing some awfully intensive computing. But Java, DB, and Swing type things have been a breeze on this system.
