(I'm sorry if this is hard to read; I have been searching for notebooks for over 12 hours, and am pretty exhausted) would $692 with free shipping be a good price on a new, sealed r40 from an authorized dealer? I didnt really want to spend so much on a notebook, as it is for school only, but my logic is: if I am going to have to spend 4-500 on a refurb(and maybe a new battery), have a shorter warranty, and deal with the potential risks of a refurb, why not spend a little more? the most I will be doing at one time will be a few office xp progs and media player. should I hold out for another best buy $499 like deal? or should I jump on this? the specs for this machine are:

Well since nobody else has responded, I'd go with no. That's a crappy processor, pretty small harddrive, and not really that cheap. I believe it was Brian that posted a link on here for an Acer Travelmate 4000 or 4500 (not sure which) for around $700. Personally, I'd go with that (hopefully he will read this and post again). Of course, this is just my opinion, others may disagree, but I would go for something else.

Well, actually, I forgot about this. This should work out nice for you if you can come up with the cash. $500 after rebates, and it will blow away that thinkpad you were looking at. But you'll have to come up with $900 initially. Great deal, unless you don't have a credit card. Hope this is useful.

thanks sublime, I totally agree with you on the toshiba. but, my bb has been sold out since at least wednesday. it was store pickup only, unorderable, and the 1800 number couldnt even tell me if any other stores had it in. maybe I should just wait a few weeks. if you don't mind, do you happen to know the user name of "brian"? I can do a search for that acer, as I had been looking at some 2301's at the same price. thanks.

Well, the good news is I found the link. The bad news is, they don't have any more!! I've been looking for a while, but it seems anyone with good prices no longer has any of thier Acer laptops. I got my wife a TM2303 a while back for $700 and she loves it. But now the cheapest I can find it for is about $900!!! I'd just keep looking, there are better deals out there for $700, for some reason there just don't seem to be many at this specific time. Good luck, hopefully you can find something.
