Hey guys, anyone see the S431 tech specs?

    It said:

I don't know if it's typo, but I hope it really will get the 4th generation cpu.

ps: I wish ibm sold thinkpad to asus or samsung, maybe the display will not so bad like this :hi2:

Just released! Comes with Ivy Bridge and upgrades are unbelievably overpriced (130$ for an extra 4GB of ram? ?). Guess I'll wait for the first reviews to come in before ordering...

Oh, and its dimensions don't support Lenovo's claim that they've fitted a 14" screen in a 13" chassis...

No, the Touchscreen option will be added later in July.

No, the S440 is the one with Haswell. It will come later this year (likewise also in September).

How did you know the name is S440?

It seems you always have information of future thinkpads. I wonder if you have friend working in lenovo? ;)

I want to ask one thing for sure: will current thinkpad line-ups like X230, T430, E430, E431 be updated with Intel Haswell processor? Or the intel haswell will be only available for new thinkpad with new name like T440, X240, E440, S440?

Great imagination. Sometimes it's hard to tell between fact and fiction. :D

Hail to the self-appointed CEO. Middle name is Lenovo. :D

Well just search in Google for "Lenovo S440". Also, the name can be found on Lenovos website: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/ls4c71a2.txt It will be obviously a Haswell S431.

I have only the information that is available in public. ;) You only have to find them...and I don´t have information about all new ThinkPads. For example, I don´t know what will happen with the W series.

Haswell will be only available in T/S/W/X/L/Ex40 models, thats for sure.

Ok, I did and guess what, it's already available in... Brazil

Oh well. I guess I found the way too. Type it in google:
    Code:
    [model_name] site:lenovo.com filetype:txt
    For example:
    Code:
    T440s site:lenovo.com filetype:txt

So it seems there won't be Edge E340 (successor of E330) :(

Being the leader generally means diluting your products to achieve a mainstream image. Something the average consumer can relate to. This is what is happening. More consumerism.

LOL @ "archaic." What is that supposed to even mean? Does having more products signify anything other than the desire to sell them in greater quantities and to cover all the niches? Apple is doing fine with limited products. Sometimes, less is more.

Oh, really? Tell me, why do they loose the position of the leader in their markets (Smartphone and Tablet) over time. The answer is: Their lineup is far to small to contain leadership. Also, their Mac-business isn´t very strong. Apple lives mostly because of the huge margins of their iPhone and iPad business.

And no, less isn´t more if you want to sell products, because logically, selling less products isn´t very good. ;)

"Appe is doing fine with limited products" - and Lenovo is doing fine with a more diverse lineup.

Lets not forget, IBM also had a wide range of products back when they owned the ThinkPad brand - T/X/R/A/G/S-Series and different variants (p and e models) and different sizes in around 2002/2003. Also something I wouldn´t call a "tiny lineup".

Does the Apple versus Lenovo argument really matter here?

The reason it gets started is because the sheer number of families and models Lenovo has. I don't try to keep up. It's freaking crazy.

That and odd changes that have occurred to the "traditional" ThinkPads the past few years.

I look at these decisions, and the decisions Samsung made with their Series 9 family and just wonder who approves this stuff.

    A pretty misleading statement.

S-series was Japan-and-Far East-only. Never sold in U.S. or Europe.

A-series was replaced by G series. They never co-existed.

    As of late 2003, IBM's lineup was: A31/p (on its way out); R40/e and R50/e; T30 (on its way out) and T40/p; X31;

    That was all, folks.

Leadership is only based on sales? What about other factors?

I never said Lenovo is not doing fine. Just saying that there many "Think" products now - all in the direction of slim, stylish, hip and trendy. They probably know who their audience is so it might be a good move.

Nice one. I bet that's a bug, it should display a picture of woman with glassess :D

There is no way lenovo will release S440 in near time, else it will hurt S431 sales.

I guess the first release of x4x thinkpad would be E445 and E545:
    User Guide - ThinkPad Edge E445, E545
Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad Edge E445

But it's not using haswell as lenovo model with 5/6 suffix always use AMD processor. But the design and specification between E431 and E445 almost same, I'm thinking E445/E545 is just an AMD version of E431/E531.

at least we know that S440 is not a rumour. in fact i think it will pretty soon will come up. by that time s431 shud be on the lower price level. since its consider using outdated processor.

It's clearly not a rumour, ibmthink had shown the link:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/ls4c71a2.txt

The new haswell thinkpad would be:
    E440/E540
    S440/S540
    L440/L540

    But I don't know what's the rest of models with 4 digits (M4400, V4400, ...). Probably that's thinkcentre or value-line models.

If I'm not wrong, it's a tradtion for lenovo to release the new generation cpu thinkpad in their low/middle entry thinkpad first. Then the high entry lineups (T/X/W) will follow later.

I think we better discuss S431 at its own thread. S3/S5 are the code name used only in china. The few differences I can tell is S3 will only has 1600x900 display option. Then S5 only has 1366x768, no Full HD. All of them has discrete graphic card (AMD Radeon), no onboard graphic option. But I don't know if it's configurable or not.
