I don't know what it's going to be called, but there's obviously going to be a successor to the X200(s) soon. Does anyone have any updates as to when, and what sort of changes will be made in this line? Obviously the newer chipset, but anything else significant... touchpad perhaps, along with trackpoint?

Looks good but in Europe unless you are company sponsered I am sure a new X series would be very expensive indeed and definitely NOT worth the wait though considering they may actually put a better screen on it, a powered USB, HDMI etc. who knows... To give an example the new T410 is prices at US 999 and in Europe I have located it for 1,750 Euros, which is over US 2,000 !! It's a downright rip off as always.

If it's any consolation, at least you guys have some culture over there. I'd take that trade any day.

It looks... like an X series. That's a good thing, best leave things alone on the outside. And it's 16:10, so that's a good sign.

    Hey Ethyriel,

What's your opinion of your X200s WXGA+ screen?
I ordered it last week, it's on the way!

    Thanks

Second hand rumor: Except for the chipset & CPU change, most features will stay the same. X201(s) will use basically the same frame and construction as X200(s), so it will inherit most properties (such as compatibility with X200 Ultrabase, and incompatibility with Series 3 docks). Oh, and all X201(s) laptops will come with a built-in touchpad.

Take it with a grain of salt -- this is what I have heard.

Why do people want a touchpad so much?????

I seriously don't get it, there's nothing wrong with the red thing (whatever it's called). You cant rest your palm on the keyboard using a touchpad because its at the very bottom, yet you can use the pointer with the palmrest.

My 2510P has a touchstyk (red thing as you call it) and a touchpad. I can vouch for never using the touchpad. Using the touchstyk means my hands are overlayed over the keyboard ready to type or point.

I think its pointless to argue about which one is better, because some people will prefer the touchpad while others will prefer the Touchpoint. I think that having them both will just serve more people better, for this very reason. Unless including the touchpad creates a really bad sideeffect - like making a smaller keyboard, or something like that - there is really no reason to go against it :)

I have them both (on T500), and I also use them both. Although I would say I lean toward using the Touchpoint more.

When the ThinkPad is in my lap (for example if I use from bed) using the touchpad is difficult, because it is so close to my body. In that case, only Touchpoint will do :)

Lenovo is going trying to charm potential new customers and broaden its fan base, not traditional TP fans. :D

You could just...NOT use the touchpad. All other thinkpads have a touchpad as well, so whats the harm if they can fit it.

We had an in depth chat with Sam Dursi one of the ThinkPad Engineering VP's at CES and one of the main challenges Lenovo are facing is the continued production of the 12" screen.

So screen size will change, but maybe not with the release of the ThinkPad X201/X201s/ and the X201 Tablet.

As for release date we have last part of February. And we are still not certain ourselves whether they will be X210 or X201!

More news as we get it on the blog

Sorry, it's been busy, and if you're lucky, you have yours by now.

But I like it. Obviously it's not my 2490Wuxi, or much lesser monitors for that matter. But the colors are vibrant when viewed directly, and horizontal viewing angles are actually surprisingly good for TN. Vertical angles suck, but they're enough to do some decent shifting in your seat and not have everything wash out.

Color is ok, probably a little cold. I could calibrate it, but honestly, it's not worth the effort for what I use my laptop for. It's good enough for some photo editing, but not all that enthusiastically.

    Mine has no dead/stuck pixels.
