Perhaps you could borrow one to make the discs.

Yes you need access to an optical drive either through a docking station (X6 UltraBase), a USB drive or alternatively a network.

You can also request them from Lenovo customer service, but you will most likely be charged for them.

You should buy an USB optical drive because if you back up on CDs you also need to restore from those CDs. So instead of running after friends to borrow the optical drive you could just buy it. It is not that expensive. That's what i did.

You could also save the back up on HD and then put it on a memory stick.

    Your choice

If you are not moving it much, an external desktop drive will offer better speed and quality. $200 is too much for a burner. This might work:

If you aren't going to use it much, you're still probably better off just borrowing one from someone. You probably can't use another drive via the network. It's too slow.

If you call Lenovo and tell them that you have a tablet with no CD burner they will send out the recovery cds free of charge.

I've done what optomos said, but I've also plugged a USB DVD-writer in. They are cheap. I got a Lite-on with Litescribe from Newegg for about $70.00. I actually bought two which was a mistake.

They probably don't make the drive, but put someone elses drive in a case. Is there some reason you are only looking at Amazon?

It's OK, but you can get the LiteOn about $25 cheaper. NewEgg is a very reputable company.

You may want to look at this. It powers off the USB port so you wouldn't need a AC Adapter. I personally have bought from them.

I bought the Lite-On with the AC adapter because I wanted litescribe and it was 10 bucks cheaper from newegg, biut ZaZ brings up a good point of having power over USB...a great feature.
