    I've done my homework, searched, and read a bunch of threads, but most of them are pretty old and none of them address 3rd party warranty upgrades.

    Is there any reason I shouldn't pay 200 for worthavegroup over 329 for lenovo's tpp (numbers coming from t420s configuration where the only upgrade possible is for 3 years)?

    It seems cheaper, they cover the same thing as lenovo but also cover loss and theft and the peripherals, and they have solid reviews. I think you basically bring your laptop to any repair company, get an estimated cost, send paperwork in, and then get reimbursed.

    I was originally going to go to squaretrade, but it seems they dont cover loss or theft.


    also if i switch out hard drive and ram will that void the lenovo warranty?

    last question. can anyone explain the ultrabase? can i have a harddrive and a dvd player in it or do i have to choose?

    last last question. does lenovo offer the windows cd with the computer?

    1) 3rd party warranties suffer in that they only cover up repairs up to the value of the notebook. So say you have a 700 dollar notebook, and they do 2 motherboard replacements @ 300 dollars each. If after the 2nd repair it goes wrong again, you get a gift card or credit for the remaining "value" of the contract, so 100 bucks. Manufacturer warranties have no such limit, and certain manufacturers will replace a unit that has been in for repair too many times.

    2) 3rd party parts will NOT void warranties UNLESS improperly installed. Also Lenovo's warranty will not cover those parts changed out.

    3) Ultrabase is basically a mini docking station which gives you more ports/expansion. You can get a hard drive or slim optical drive.

    4) Lenovo does not anymore, I believe you can order recovery media when you purchase it brand new. Also if you are within warranty and your drive fails and you were not able to make recovery media, Lenovo will ship recovery media to you.

    Manufacturers warranty are the best, if you ever dealt with third party warranty then you would know that they are not very good, even it is from large retailers.

    Yup I would also go with the manufacturer. Accidental damage if you are as clumsy as me.

    And most manufacturer extended warranties are better priced, as well as gets you repairs as long as it is within your warranty (aka spilled coffee ain't going to be fixed with a normal depot warranty).

    i saw a chart comparing iphone warranties and insurance policies and under worthavegroup it said unlimited claims

    so i gave them a call today and they said that if i have coverage up to say $2000 then i can make claims as many times as necessary as long as its within the time frame and each time they will cover up to $2000. i asked the customer service rep if the warranty could potentially worth much more than 2000 and she said yes

    i think also the way it works is i can drop it off at a lenovo depot and then get reimbursed for the fees from worthavegroup.


    also, i know this is pretty suspicious sounding, but i'm not a shill for them. just want to get the best value warranty out there and this looks it could save me a hundred bucks
